Nikiti

The name Nikiti comes from the land of Neakitos, a monk of Xenophontos Monastery since 1300, located in the area of today's Psalidas, shortly before the crossing to Marmaras. In 1089, the Monastery of Neakitos in Mount Athos, which was bordered by the Monastery of Kostamonitou, is known. The Monastery of Neakitos sometime before 1300 declined and only her name survived. Over the years, the inhabitants of the area maintained mainly orally the memory of the name, which eventually formed in its present form, Nikiti. The official name of the village since the recognition of the community in 1918 was known from the maps and various official documents as a "Nikita" community. This name remained until 1988, after which the name was officially changed to "Nikiti".
